  5. Rights of the Master:

  6. 9) He had the right to marry a slave or give slaves in marriage, 1 Chron 2:35.

  7. We are betrothed to Jesus Christ, we are His bride. Rom 7:1-4; Eph 5:22-33; Rev 19:7-8

  8. 10) He had the right to marry a daughter to a slave, 1 Chron 2:34.

  9. The daughter is Israel and the slave is gentile believers who are grafted in to the family of God. Rom 11:17-23; Gal 4:7

  10. Gal 4:7,“Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.”

  11. 11) He had the right to purchase slaves in foreign markets, Lev 25:44.

  12. No Jew or Gentile, Greek or Barbarian, slave or free. All can be part of God's family. Mat 13:31-32; Rom 10:12; Gal 3:28; Col 3:11

  13. Gal 3:28 (NLT),“There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. For you are all Christians—you are one in Christ Jesus.”

  14. 12) He had the right to enslave or sell as a slave, anyone caught stealing his property, Gen 44:8-33.

  15. Sinners have entrance into the family of God. Sinners without repentance can be cast into the Lake of Fire. Mat 9:10-13; Mark 2:15-17; Luke 5:30-32; Rom 5:8, 19; 1 Tim 1:15-16

  16. Rom 5:8,“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

  17. 13) He had the right to demand service from his slaves, Gen 14:14, 24.

  18. We are His workmen and workmanship. Rom 6:22; 9:21-24; 2 Cor 3:6; 4:5-6; 9:8; Eph 2:10; 2 Tim 2:15 with Eph 6:5ff; Col 3:22

  19. 2 Tim 2:15,“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.”

  20. Rights of the Slave:

  21. 1) He had the right to freedom by the purchase of his redemption, or by the elapse of time, or in the year of jubilee, or he could work his way into freedom.

  22. Jesus Christ has purchased our freedom so that we would not have to. He is our kinsman redeemer. Jer 32:7-8; Job 19:25; Psa 19:14; Isa 44:6; Luke 1:68;Rom 3:24-25; 4:7-8; 8:23; 1 Cor 1:30; Eph 1:7; Col 1:14; Heb 9:12-15

  23. Rom 4:7, “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, And whose sins have been covered. 8Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account.”

  24. 2) He had the right to good treatment, Lev 25:43, 46.

  25. We have the Royal Family Honor Code. John 13:34; 15:12-13; Rom 12:19-20; 13:8-11; James 2:8

  26. John 13:34,“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”

  27. 3) He had the right to justice, Ex 21:20; Job 31:13ff.

  28. Jesus Christ is our advocate who defends us. Job 16:19; Isa 54:7; Mat 12:18-20, 18:21-35; Luke 18:7-8; Col 4:1; 1 John 2:1

  29. Col 4:1, "Masters, grant to your slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you too have a Master in heaven.”

  30. 4) He had the right to marry, have children and live a normal life, Ex 21:5.
