Why Council Tax? • Council • Supports Local Authority in achievement of HECA targets. • Enabler to make owner occupier properties energy efficient. • Opportunity for Government to demonstrate & deliver on their environmental commitments. • EEC • Contributes towards delivering EEC obligation • First to market with EEC proposition stimulating consumer interest in energy efficiency measures • Proactive approach & acknowledgement that tax measures have a role to play in customers making their homes energy efficient • British Gas • Need to stimulate demand to encourage take-up of energy efficiency • Helping the environment by reducing the energy we use • Hard-hitting Fiscal incentive seen as a positive way to encourage take-up of energy efficiency • British Gas providing a step change in the implementation of EE in UK homes to meet its environmental commitments • Customer • Subsidised EE products - CWI & Loft Insulation • Up to £100 Council Tax rebate per household • Substantial savings on energy: • £110 saving on annual energy bills from CWI • £140 saving on annual energy bills from Loft

Retail Partnerships • British Gas provides financial support for a range of energy efficiency products in B&Q and Curry's retail stores in Great Britain • Energy efficiency products include: Loft Insulation, Tank Jackets, CFLs, Appliances, TRVs, Condensing Boilers. • Our funding supports price promotions, marketing material, training of staff and data management. • 3.3m energy efficiency products are supported annually.

  12. British Gas Energy Trust • £10m Trust Fund • Charitable Trust status • Trustees in place • Energy bills - wider assistance in severe cases of hardship - money advice • Applications now being processed • Commenced grant making process in Nov ‘04 • Anticipate will grow to 10k grants per annum
