  1. Making the Wise Choice For Marriage

  2. Life is about making choices

  3. At creation God gave us the freedom and power to choose.

  4. The choices we make will either help us get closer to God or move further away from Him.

  5. Deuteronomy 30:15-19. 15. “Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster.

  6. Deuteronomy 30:15-19. 16. For I command you this day to love the Lord your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. . .

  7. Deuteronomy 30:15-19. 16. . . If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy.

  8. Deuteronomy 30:15-19. 17. “But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are drawn away to serve and worship other gods,

  9. Deuteronomy 30:15-19. 18. then I warn you now that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live a long, good life in the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy.

  10. Deuteronomy 30:15-19. 19. “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. . . .

  11. Deuteronomy 30:15-19. 19. . . . Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! “

  12. The Most Important Decisions

  13. The Three Most Important Decisions • Who or what will be our God? • How will we make a living? • How will we live socially?

  14. Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

  15. Joshua 4:14-15 14. Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.

  16. Joshua 4:14-15 15. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood,

  17. Joshua 4:14-15 or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

  18. Savior, Lord, and Master

  19. Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”

  20. Proverbs 28:5 “They that seek the Lord understand all things.”

  21. Samson

  22. Judges 14:2,3 When he returned home, he told his father and mother, “A young Philistine woman in Timnah caught my eye. I want to marry her. Get her for me.”

  23. Judges 14:2,3 3. His father and mother objected. “Isn’t there even one woman in our tribe or among all the Israelites you could marry?” they asked.

  24. Judges 14:2,3 “Why must you go to the pagan Philistines to find a wife?” But Samson told his father, “Get her for me! She looks good to me.”

  25. Samson’s choice became a matter of life and death.

  26. Ellen G. White Patriarch and Prophets Page 563 “Just as he was entering upon manhood, the time when he must execute his divine mission--the time above all others when he should have been true to God--Samson connected himself with the enemies of Israel.

  27. Ellen G. White Patriarch and Prophets Page 563 He did not ask whether he could better glorify God when united with the object of his choice, or whether he was placing himself in a position where he could not fulfill the purpose to be accomplished by his life.

  28. Ellen G. White Patriarch and Prophets Page 563 To all who seek first to honor Him, God has promised wisdom; but there is no promise to those who are bent upon self-pleasing. How many are pursuing the same course as did Samson!

  29. Ellen G. White Patriarch and Prophets Page 563 How often marriages are formed between the godly and the ungodly, because inclination governs in the selection of husband or wife!

  30. Ellen G. White Patriarch and Prophets Page 563 The parties do not ask counsel of God, nor have His glory in view. Christianity ought to have a controlling influence upon the marriage relation,

  31. Ellen G. White Patriarch and Prophets Page 563 but it is too often the case that the motives which lead to this union are not in keeping with Christian principles.”

  32. How will we live socially?

  33. Desires • Desires help us develop discipline. • Discipline helps us develop character. • Character is what makes the person. • Character alone is what we will take to heaven.

  34. When we do not develop this discipline, there’s a greater risk we will make a poor choice of a life’s mate.

  35. The Five Senses

  36. Sexual purity is mastering the five senses and not allowing the five senses to master us.

  37. Christ gives us the power to master the five senses.

  38. God Made Us Special?

  39. Marriage does not make us happy, it only makes us married.

  40. Happy people make happy marriages.

  41. John Powell “There is one need so fundamental and so essential that if it is met, everything else will almost certainly harmonize in a general sense of well-being. When this need is properly nourished, the whole human organism will be healthy and the person will be happy.

  42. John Powell This need is a true and deep appreciation for oneself, a genuine and joyful self-acceptance, and authentic self-esteem, which results in an interior sense of celebration: It’s good to be me . . . I am very happy to be me!”

  43. Ellen G. White The Desire of Ages Page 668 “The Lord is disappointed when His people place a low estimate upon themselves. He desires His chosen heritage to value themselves according to the price He has placed upon them. God wanted them, else He would not have sent His Son on such an expensive errand to redeem them”

  44. “God made me complete, unique, special, and with a purpose.”

  45. Wrong Reasons For Getting Married Pressure Sexual Hunger To fill up your emotional and spiritual emptiness

  46. Psychologist, Dr. Barbara De Angelis “If you have deep places of emptiness within you, no partner, regardless of how much they love you, will be able to fill that emptiness.”

  47. Your only answer to completeness is in Jesus, not in marriage, nor a romantic partner

  48. Who Should You Marry?

  49. Take Your Time

  50. An important point about selecting a life partner is knowing when to make that decision. This is all about mental, physical, social, and financial maturity.
