  2. “If you’ve committed the unpardonable sin, you’re toast.”

  3. Unpardonable sin? Which sin is THAT?

  4. What’s the greatest sin a person can commit? • Killing innocents in the name of God? “The chanting ofAllahuakbar--‘Allah is the greatest!’ – by militant Muslims as they commit barbaric acts against innocents around the world is the greatest sin a human can commit. . . . committing atrocities in the name of God.” Dennis Prager, Jewish World Review

  5. The Unpardonable Sin Mark 3:28-30

  6. Mark 3:28-30 • I tell you the truth, all the sins of men will be forgiven them, and whatever blasphemies they utter. • But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not ever be forgiven; but is guilty of an eternal sin.” • -- because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”

  7. Matthew 12:31-32 • “I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven . . . either in this age or in the age to come.”

  8. Luke 12:10 • “Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.”

  9. What is the Unpardonable Sin? UPS = BHSBlasphemyagainst the Holy Spirit

  10. Why is it worse to speak against the Holy Spirit? "A word against the Son of Man is forgivable because His deity was veiled, but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is flagrant rejection of the works and words of Christ." Wayne House, The Nelson Study Bible notes

  11. Why is it worse to speak against the Holy Spirit? "The difference between blaspheming the Son of Man and blaspheming the Spirit is that blasphemy of the Son of Man is an instant rejection, while blasphemy of the Spirit is a permanent decision." Darrell Bock, LUKE, p. 1143.

  12. How can you know if you’ve committed the Unpardonable Sin? 1) Couldn’t care less about God forgiving their sin. The UPS is committed by people who:

  13. "If you are concerned about it, you have not committed the unpardonable sin."

  14. The UPS is committed by people who: 1) Couldn’t careless about being forgiven. 2) Realize Christ is Truth but rejectHim regardless.

  15. Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov • The important thing is to stop lying to yourself. A man who lies to himself and believes his own lies becomes unable to recognize the truth, either in himself or in anyone else.

  16. The Unpardonable Sin is deliberate. ”Speaking against the Son of man might be due to a failure to recognize Him for what He is. So Paul recalls how in his pre-Christian days he thought it his duty to oppose … Jesus. But if, having seen the light on the Damascus Road, he had deliberately closed his eyes to it … that would have been the sin against the Holy Spirit." F. F. Bruce.

  17. The UPS is committed by people who: 1) Couldn’t careless about being forgiven. 2) Realize Christ is Truth but rejectHim regardless. 3) Disdain the miracles that Christ performs.

  18. Can Christians commit this sin? NO. No Christian can commit a sin for which there will never be forgiveness.

  19. Can unbelievers commit this sin and later regret it? NO. These people have no regret and are eager to persuade others.

  20. The Unpardonable Sin is permanent. “Jesus regards blasphemy against the Spirit— permanently rejecting his identity as attested by the Spirit’s works— as the worst of sins.”" Craig Keener, The IVP Background Commentary

  21. Romans 1:32 • Although they know God’s righteous decree -- that those who do such things are deserving of death --they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

  22. C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity • The sins of the flesh are bad, but they are the least bad of all sins. All the worst pleasures are purely spiritual: the pleasure of putting other people in the wrong, of bossing and patronizing and back-biting; the pleasure of power, of hatred.

  23. C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity • For there are two things inside me, competing with the human self which I must try to become. They are the Animal self, and the Diabolical self. The Diabolical self is the worse of the two. That is why a cold self-righteous prig who goes regularly to church may be far nearer to hell than a prostitute. But, of course, it is better to be neither.

  24. This is one of the most frequently asked questions on the Bible Answer Man broadcast . . .In response, let me first point out that … unlike those who are afraid that they have committed the unforgivable sin, the Pharisees were totally unconcerned about Christ’s forgiveness. . . .Furthermore, those who have committed the unpardonable sin have no godly regrets. . . .Finally, the Bible consistently teaches that those who spend eternity separated from God do so because they willingly, knowingly, and continuously reject the gospel.” Hank Hanegraaf a a a

  25. This fits other biblical evidence: 1.The only way not to get to heaven is to permanently reject Christ (John 3:36). 2.“Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Rom 10:13), and “he who comes to me, I will by no means cast out.” John 6:37 3.The Bible teaches us that God does not hesitate to forgive the very worst of people -- David, Peter, Paul -- and the very worst of sins -- lying, adultery, murder, denying Christ.

  26. “If you have committed the unpardonable sin, you’re toast.” Affirmed
