Greek League(490-474 BC) • Unified 31 different Greek city-states against Persia. • Sparta was chosen to lead & Athens provided navy & much of the wealth. • Cooperation led to defeat of Persian Empire. Thermopylae (480 BC)
Empire of Athens(450 BC) • Following Persia’s defeat Athens tried to dominate other city-states.
Peloponnesian War (431-404 BC) • Greek Civil War: Several Greek city-states (including Sparta) united to fight Athens. • Eventually the Athenians were defeated
One Macedonian King • Conquered several Greek city-states. • Forced all to accept him as their leader by 337 BC. • He was murdered in 336 BC. Philip II (382-336 BC)
