  1. College ScholarshipsClass of 2010 Suggestions: Apply only if you are eligible. Submit your application by the deadline date. If you need transcripts, copies of your letters of recommendation, or copies of anything from your scholarship file, please ask Ms. Emery in the DHSHS Career Center for them at least one week before the deadline date.

  3. A few more tips…… • Present yourself well. Neatness counts. • Check your spelling on everything. • Be sure your name is on each page submitted. • Submit all requested information, and submit it on time. • Be prepared to go to the post office for postage and to mail your own entries.

Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri • Danforth Scholars may receive full or partial tuition scholarships. • Look at their website www.wustl.edu • They are especially interested in students who exhibit maturity, strong moral character, selflessness, and commitment to the community. • Application due October 15, 2009.

  10. https://www.horatioalger.org//scholarships/index.cfm • Eligibility for Scholarships • The eligibility criteria to be considered for National Scholarships and Horatio Alger State Scholarship Programs are as follows: • enrollment full time as a high school senior, progressing normally toward graduation in the Spring/Summer 2010, with plans to enter college no later than the fall following graduation; • a strong commitment to pursuing and completing a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution located in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution. • critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred, if higher explanation must be provided); • involvement in co-curricular and community activities; • demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity • a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and • United States Citizenship.

U.S. Service Academies • Students who apply for an appointment to a Service Academy must receive a Congressional nomination • US Military Academy at West Point, US Naval Academy at Annapolis, US Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, and US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point • Class of 2010 applicants must send completed application materials postmarked no later than November 1, 2009. • Application instructions and materials can be found at http://boxer.senate.gov/services/academy_recs

  13. 2010 Poster Contest • Safe Jobs for Youth • First Prize $400; Second Prize $300; Third Prize $200 • Design a poster highlighting job safety and health. • Deadline: November 2, 2009 • Visit www.youngworkers.org for details and entry forms.

  16. DHSHS Scholarship Application • Due December 11, 2009, in the Career Center. • Download it to your student drive from the DHSHS website • Prepares you to have components you need to submit other scholarship applications (see next page).

  17. DHSHS Scholarship Application components: • 3 pages of your Personal information • Personal Statement (essay) • At least two letters of recommendation • Please identify clearly your college and career goals • See next page

DHSHS Scholarship Application • When your completed DHSHS scholarship application is received in the Career Center, a scholarship file is made for you. • Copies of your application are submitted by Ms. Emery for local scholarship opportunities when you fit specific eligibility requirements for GPA, test scores, activities, etc. • Members of scholarship committees read your application and make their decisions according to their own unique criteria. • At some point you may receive an invitation to be interviewed. • ALL scholarship applications will require time, energy and thought from you.

  19. Financial Aid & FAFSA • Apply for FAFSA January 1 – March 2 • Colleges where you are accepted for admission will give you a financial aid offer to review

  20. 2010 Presidential Scholarship at Montana State University • Full tuition waivers for up to four years for incoming freshmen entering Montana State University. • Application is online at www.montana.edu/ honors. • Due no later than January 5, 2010.

  21. Create a 30-second Video! • Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest • 1st Prize $400, 2nd Prize $300, 3rd Prize $200 • Design a 30-second video highlighting job safety and health for teens • Deadline: January 11, 2010 • Visit www.youngworkers.org for details and entry forms

  22. Dr. Seuss College Scholarship • First Place $5,000 • Write an essay to the question asked about Dr. Seuss’s book, Oh, The Places You’ll Go! • Applications due by February 15, 2010.
