  2. History of the Louvre The Louvre Museum itself was originally a royal palace in Paris for King Francis the 1st. The pieces of art were part of his personal collection. The Louvre pyramid was not there at this time. Interior of Louvre Museum.

  3. Sully Wing This is the oldest of the three main wings in the Louvre Museum. The first floor is home to many antiquities. The second floor is home to a collection of many French paintings. This is the outside of the Sully Wing.

  4. Richelieu Wing Home to many paintings; from the Middle Ages up to the 19th century. The 1st floor holds decorative arts ( clocks, furniture, china, etc. ) The second floor has the works of master painters. ( Rubens and Rembrandt. ) This is a drawing of Rubens. This is a drawing of Rembandt.

  5. Denon Wing This is the most crowded part of the Louvre Museum, most likely because this is the home of the Mona Lisa. She is kept on the first floor. This is the Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo da Vinci in 1505.

  6. The Louvre Pyramid In 1970 the Louvre struggled to hold its large amounts of visitors. The Louvre Pyramid was the solution to that problem. The idea was created by the French president of that time period, Francois Mitterrand. This is the Louvre Pyramid.

Louvre Pyramid Fun Facts • Made of glass and metal • Surrounded by 3 smaller pyramids • Main entrance to the museum • Dimensions- 72 ft. tall 116 ft. wide • Surrounded by reflective pools, each with a fountain • Most people do not like the pyramid because they think it doesn’t match the museum.

  8. Our Project We made a model of the Louvre pyramid. The pyramid itself is made of plexy glass and painted chain link wire. The reflective pools are made of tinfoil wrapped cardboard, and blue wax paper. The wires for our light system are under the base of the pyramid.
