Mission Statement “The purpose of the Directors of Clinical Skills Courses (DOCS) is to build a cohesive and productive national consortium of educators who direct clinical skills courses for medical students. We aim to promote scholarship, establish best practices, and encourage the exchange of ideas across the continuum of clinical skills education.”

Guiding Principles • Want to keep our membership relatively open (any one can join) but focused (med students/clinical skills) to ensure we pursue our mission. • Want to be democratic, but can’t wait for a vote on everything • Need to link with other organizations • Need to get to work ASAP • Need to have our voice heard • Scholarship is a must • As many involved as possible

Bylaws Basics • Outlines positions, duties and terms • Name and mission • Membership is available to all faculty or staff involved with courses that teach medical students clinical skills and related content such as clinical reasoning, professionalism, and ethics. • Elections and amendments • Interim period

Interim Period • Thought that was important to start work at this meeting (not wait for elected or appointment positions) • Thought it would be too difficult to hold meaningful elections before this meeting • Recommend that the membership approve the steering committee to assume leadership roles for one interim year, with elections to occur prior to the 2013 annual meeting, with elected members starting their terms November 2013.

Proposed Interim Leadership 2013 will elect both a President and President Elect President will serve immediately November 2013 President Elect assumes Presidency in Nov 2014 2014 elects President Elect who assumes Presidency in November 2015 For 2013-2014 only, the Past-President will be appointed by the newly elected Executive Council and selected from one of the non-elected Interim Executive Council members from 2012-2013 to ensure continuity
