  1. The FirmJohn Grisham By Dylan Fitzherbert

  2. Mitchell Y. McDeere Mitchell Y. McDeere is better known through out the novel by his friends and coworkers as Mitch. Mitch is a Harvard law graduate and he begins his work career in a small but very wealthy firm. He works out of Memphis Tennessee at the law firm known as Bendini, Lambert & Locke. Mitch is a young man in his mid twenties that has no work experience and comes from a very poor childhood and a broken down family. He managed to survive financially through university and has now landed a very well paying job with lots of benefits. He now has a very positive look on life as his future looks very bright. As the novel progresses Mitch suspects that the firm is taping and recording every conversation, phone call, and every word that Mitch says to his family and friends. So Mitch begins to secretly turn on his on law firm causing some major conflicts. Mitch is also very attached to his young wife and wants to be with her forever but the long hours and other women start to get between the too lovers also causing more conflicts. Mitch is very active witch results in a very well fit body, good health, as well as goods looks. He is a hard worker and is very committed to his job. Mentally he begins to break down because of the working long hours and all the conflicts going on at the firm as well as the conflicts between him and his wife.

  3. Abby McDeere Abby is the wife to Mitch as they married right out of high school. Abby has a good relationship with her parents even though they are not well liked by Mitch. She is a kindergarden teacher at a local school in Memphis. Abby has a well fit physique but spends many hours running and working out. She has brown hair and has always been naturally pretty. Abby shows many emotions throughout the novel, mostly towards her husband Mitch. She is stressed out and sad because she does not get to see Mitch as much as she wants to because he is always working long hours and way on business trips.

  4. Ray McDeere Ray is a big structured man, who is very muscular. He has dark hair and his looks reflect that of a prison inmate who has experienced many tough times. Ray is the brother of Mitch, although Mitch tries to exclude his presence around the firm. He believes it will hurt his reputation, since he is a prison inmate and hasn’t had a successful past like Mitch. Ray does not have many friends because he doesn’t relate well with others in the novel, since he is considered a bad guy, Mitch’s wife is the only one who accepts him as he is and tries helping him through his struggles. Most of the time Ray is around he does not show any emotions except for rage. Ray tries not to reflect on his past has he is not to proud of it. When he shows emotions it is towards the people that get in his way since he is on the run from the police because he escaped from prison.

  5. During the novel Mitch’s brother Ray McDeere escapes from prison. Mitch decides that he is going to help out his brother run and hide from the police. This changed Mitch because it made him look like one of the bad guys to the police and not only did he have the police after him but the law firm was after him too. If Mitch would not have helped out his brother he would not have been chased by the police. Another event that Mitch had to react to is when Marty and Joe were killed. Mitch became suspicious that the firm set the two men up to be killed. This set him off because he thought that the firm he was working for was just out to get people and he thought he could be next. Mitch Y. Mcdeere Mitch Found out that everything that he was doing or saying was being watched or taped in some way by the his Law Firm. His reaction was that he began to look into why they were doing this and began to feel uneasy about it and started to turn on the firm bring up many conflicts. Ray McDeere, Mitch's brother brutally beat up a Nordic man during the novel. Mitch just sits there and watches as Ray kicks and beats the man. Mitch does nothing to stop his bigger brother.

  6. Mitchell Y. McDeere Tom Cruise, Tom would fit the part of Mitch because not only does he fit the physical features of Mitch which is an athletically fit physique but I think he also has the ability to play a very serious and intense role that Mitch has portrayed in the novel.

  7. Abby McDeere Jessica Alba, Jessica would fit the physical and mental features to portray Abby in The Firm because she has the brow hair, good looks, and would be able to show the same mental and emotional characteristics Abby is know for in the novel.

  8. Ray McDeere Hugh Jackman would be a perfect fit for Ray in The Firm because he can very easily play a down and dirty role of an escaped prison inmate that has to run from the police as well as get into some battles along the way. Hugh is a big structured and rugged man just like Ray.

  9. Wayne Terrence Ben Affleck would be the actor I chose to play the undercover police officer Wayne Terrence. Ben would have to play a very professional and serious acting part in the film witch I feel he would be great at after seeing some of the others parts he played in in past movies such as Smokin’ Aces.

  10. Writing style • (1) “They focused on his lips and waited for the wrinkles to form on his cheeks and the teeth to break through. He tried to conceal a smile, but it was impossible.” p.9 • (2) “Ray charged like a battering ram and sent the Nordic crashing into the railing. He landed four bullet like jabs to the eyes and nose, each one drawing blood.” p. 491 • (3) “Ray crawled through the railing and slid down the rope. Eight feet under the deck of the pier, an iron cross brace was attached to two of the thick concrete columns that disappeared into the water.” p.492 • (4) “They watched a 727 life off to the north. The parking lot vibrated.” p.221 • (5) “His feet were on the new desk, crossed at the ankles and numb from the lack of circulation. The rest of the body slouched comfortable in the thick leather executive chair.” p.93 http://www.wordle.net/show/wrdl/1550713/Dylan_TVHS

  11. Plot I think that the climax of The Firm in when Mitch finally is told by the FBI that for sure that Bendini, Lambert & Locke, the firm he works for is taping and recording every move he makes, conversation he speaks in and every words he says. This sets him off he begins to confront the police witch makes the firm members very angry causing them to turn on him as well. Major conflicts arise as Mitch begins to run with his brother. Not only are they running from the firm but the police are after him as well. Ray escaped from prison and Mitch begins to help him hide from the police and helps him run from them as well causing him to look like the bad guy as well.

  12. Conflict Early on in the novel two of the law firm workers, Marty Kozinski and Joe Hodge start to suspect that they too are having every move taped and every conservation recorded. The firm owners begin to suspect that the two workers are notifying the police that the firm is doing these things, which is illegal. So they decide that it would be a better idea to do away with the two workers before it became public that the law firm is taping and recording their workers. So the senior parteners decide to kill the two workers, so when Marty and Joe went on a vacation the firm sent people after them. They made it look like it was a boating explosion accident and they covered up all their tracks. No one suspected anything not even the police after investigation. This could have been handled differently such as sneaking into their homes and taking out all of the cameras and bugs for a while and let them search their homes and then they would not find anything or your could simply fire them.

  13. Theme The author John Grisham chose The Firm as the title to the novel mainly because the whole plot revolves around a law firm. The title is appropriate to the novel in many ways. Not only does the novel take place at a firm but this law firm is ran in a strict way or in a way in which you could refer to as a “firm” way.
