  1. Hatchet • A Book Report By: Jordan R. • Vinci Park School 5th Grade • January 2002

  2. Setting • This story took place in the Canadian wilderness.

  3. The main character in this story was Brian. Brian was in a plane crash in the Canadian wilderness. When Brian crashed in the wilderness, he thought he was dead. Brian was mad at his parents because he knew why they got divorced. Brian stayed with his mom during the school year and he stayed with his dad during the summer. Characters

  4. Plot This story was about a boy named Brian that had a plane crashed in the Canadian wilderness because the pilot that was flying the plane had a heart attack. Now Brian had to take over the plane and try to land it in the lake. But he couldn’t land the plane, so it crashed into the lake. He swam up to shore. He was out of breath. He thought he was dead, but he was alive.

  5. Complications The complications that Brian had to deal with was to try to get food, build a house for him to sleep in and to survive, but he only has to use the hatchet that his gave him before he flew with the pilot. So, that’s what made it hard for Brian to survive.

  6. recommendation I would recommend this book to another 5th grader because it has a lot of story problems and it also has a long ending. This book is a good book to read because it tells you how to survive in the wilderness. I like this book because if I was in this situation, I would try my best to survive like Brian.

  7. Theme The theme or message that this story is giving us is to not give up your luck because you mind find a small cabin in the wilderness or maybe you might find a way home. This is the theme of the story, hatchet.
