  2. 1985 • California based utilities begin reporting M/WBE tothe CA Public Utilities Commission 1994 Governor Whitman appoints Herbert H. Tate, Jr. Presidentof the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Nationally, the Department of Energy establishes MBE Roundtable to “level the playing field” for doing business with major energy companies

  3. 1997 • NJ BPU Resolution issued to encourage minority and women-owned businesses to forge effective working relationships with members of the public utility business community • 1st Annual Opportunity Conference for Minority & Women-owned Business Enterprises • President Tate meets with Regulated company leadershipat Executive Roundtable • NJ BPU Resolution establishing the SDDC Charter: • A Council consisting of regulated company representatives/M/WBE advocacy organizations • The Council will focus on developing working relationships between • M/WBEs and regulated companies with revenues over $10 million • The Council will organize and run an annual business opportunity conference and workshops

  4. 1997 • 11/97 NJ BPU Commissioners voted to approve appointments to the newly formed “Supplier Diversity Development Council” • 12/97 The SDDC holds its inaugural meeting

  5. 1998 • Samuel A. Pignatelli, South Jersey Gaselected first SDDC President • SDDC Operating By-laws adopted • Mission Statement drafted and adopted • Committees: Conference, Best Practices,Seminars & Support, Statewide Assessment, Nominating, and By-Laws

  6. 1999 • Declaration of Interdependence signed byRegulated Company Presidents Key aspects: • Business policy for doing business with M/WBE’s • Periodic reporting of M/WBE Program progress • Regulated company associate accountability • Encourage outreach targeted at the M/WBE community • Encourage and support second tier reporting

  7. 1999 • 3rd Business Opportunity Conference held: “Building Strong Partnerships” 2000 • Ms. Avis Yates Rivers, owner Technology Concepts Group, Inc., elected President of the SDDC

  8. 2000 • 4th Business Opportunity Conference: “Riding the Wave of Change – Winning in a Deregulated Environment” Workshops: • E-Commerce • Certification • Access to Capital • Negotiation Skills • National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioner’s establishes Energy Marketing Access Partnership with a focus on natural gas providers

  9. 2001 • 1st Regulated Company Statewide Assessmentreports solicited Key areas for reporting: • Internal efforts • External efforts • Subcontracting (2nd tier) efforts • M/WBE Program Reports – MWBE expenditures • % of total expenditures • Model Program component implementation

  17. 2004 • EMAP evolves into the Utility Market Access Partnership, expanding beyond natural gas focus to include electricity, gas, water and telecom industries • SDDC instrumental in evaluating the California Model and New Jersey Model and in establishing the UMAP Supplier Diversity Program Model • NARUC endorses a model set of standards as a guide to State Commissioners and utilities to increase procurement opportunities for women and minority business owners

  19. 2006 • Tabitha Stanislaw, JCP&L/FirstEnergy electedSDDC President • NJ BPU reissues Resolution, incorporating UMAP model standards as part of the SDDC model

  21. 2006 • Declaration of Interdependence redrafted to incorporate UMAP standards • SDDC/UMAP presentation at the Edison Electric Institute Supplier Diversity Conference • Council meets monthly • Working w/the Governor’s rep. from the Office of Economic Growth to look at work together in aligning the State’s diversity initiatives 2007
