  9. MOE Policy on Subject Combinations • Every student offers a combination of H1 / H2 / H3 subjects + MTL Number of Units Offered: Minimum (Norm): 9 + 1 (H1 MTL) Maximum: 11 + 1 (H1 MTL) • At least 4 content based (H1, H2) subjects, 3 of which must be at H2 level (excluding KI) and at least 1 must be contrasting. • At most 2 H3 subjects • H1 MTL unit cannot be replaced by another content unit (except H2 MTLL)

  10. Contrasting Subjects • In general, all subjects are classified into 4 categories • H2 Knowledge & Inquiry is a contrasting subject for both the Sciences & Mathematics group and Humanities & Arts group.

  11. Contrasting Subjects • All students not offering H2 Knowledge & Inquiry must offer a combination of H1 & H2 subjects from both the Sciences & Mathematics group and the Humanities and Arts group • H1 language subjects may NOT be used as a contrasting subject Examples of subject combinations:

  12. NJC Subject Combination Framework Maximum 11 units (H1, H2 subjects including GP/KI, PW, H1/H2 MTL) + 1 unit (H3 subject) Maximum 10 units (H1, H2 subjects including GP/KI, PW, H1/H2 MTL) + 2 units (H3 subjects) • All students with L1R5 equal or lower than the College’s cutoff point can offer the following combinations of H1, H2 and H3: EITHER OR

  13. NJC Subject Combination Framework • All students may not offer more than 4 H2 subjects • To offer the subject, students must meet the pre-requisites of the subject • Arts students can choose at most 1 H2 and 1 H1 Science & Mathematics subjects • Subject to time-table constraints • Subject to Humanities or AEP scholarship requirements

  14. NJC Subject Combination Framework Subject Combination Structures in NJC: Recommended • 4H2 + GP + PW + (H1 MTL) (10 + (1) units) • 3H2 + 1H1+ KI + PW + (H1 MTL) (10 + (1) units) Others • 3H2 + 2H1+ GP + PW + (H1 MTL) (10 + (1) units) • 3H2 + 1H1+ GP + PW + (H1 MTL) (9 + (1) units) • 3H2 + KI + PW + (H1 MTL) (9 + (1) units) Additional combination for students taking H2 MTLL • 3H2 + 1H1+ GP + PW + H2 MTL (9 + 2 units)

  15. Scholarship Requirements • To be eligible for PSC scholarships, a student must offer more than the norm units of subject combinations At least 10 units (H1, H2, H3 subjects including GP/KI, PW) + (1 unit) (H1 MTL.
