WP5 – Promotion Maritime Research at Schools • 5-1 Promotional material for high school pupils of 13-18 years - set up basic texts / generic form, involving - universities - research institutes - harbour authorities - adapt and translate to local situation - distribute material • 5-2 Organize school contacts and visits - universities / laboratories - research institutes - port traffic control centre • 5-3 Report on 5-1 and 5-2

WP5 – Promotion Maritime Research at Schools • SCHEDULE: • 5-1 Promotional material for high school pupils of 13-18 years - set up basic texts Months 1 - 4 (delayed to end May) - adapt and translate Months 5 - 8 (June-September) - distribute material Months 10 – 24 • 5-2 Organize school contacts and visits - Months 10 - 24 • 5-3 Report on 5-1 and 5-2 - Months 22- 24

WP5 – Promotion Maritime Research at Schools • Cooperation in the Netherlands for promotional material and school visits (example): - MARIN - Port of Rotterdam: ship traffic control, container terminal - Ship (bridge / ER) simulator - TNO: structural laboratory, FELS - TUDelft: hydromechanics laboratory - Imtech (Integrated Bridge Control) - DELTARES / Delft Hydraulics

Maritime Youth activities in the Netherlands • 1/ Spetters gezocht http://www.spetterendeopleidingen.nl/ (publicity Campaign 'splashes search‘) This youth-oriented promotional campaign wants to show the atractiviness of the maritime sector. Various promotional sheets being distributed in education, present young people introducing their studies or work in the maritime sector.

  9. Maritime Youth activities in the Netherlands • 2/ Week van de Scheepsbouw http://www.weekvandescheepsbouw.nl/ (week of shipbuilding, yearly event) Rotterdam, 5-10 October 2009 (last year 24 000 visitors)

  10. Maritime Youth activities in the Netherlands • 3/ Marin Open Day (yearly) In 2009 MARIN opens its doors once more for the public. On Saturday October 10 from 10.00 until 15.00 hrs over a hundred MARIN employees will be happy to introduce you to the world of model tests and research in shipping industry.
