  2. Research Question How large is the average crater size?

  3. Important Statement • Why is it important • -Our experiment is important because, if we research about craters and there average size, we can learn more about Mars, the atmosphere, and meteorites. If we find out more about Mars we could help scientists plan their trip to Mars and help them figure out how much protection we would need or equipment to bring.

  4. Hypothesis • If we measure every crater we can find, then we think that the average crater size will be 18km, because 18km is the max size of the THEMIS images. In our studying of the THEMIS images most of the craters filled up the whole picture.

  5. Background Information • The average height of a crater on Mars is Three Km. • There are over 43,000 craters on Mars with a diameter of over Five km. • The largest crater on Mars was formed four billion years ago, and it was two-thirds the size of the moon.

  9. Data Analysis • From the data we gather we found at the average crater size is 18km. Most of the craters in the THEMIS images were preserved and a lot had lava flows.

  10. Conclusion • Q. What did your group learn fro the data you collected? Refer to your science investigation question. • We learned that the average crater size is 18km. We got our answer from the data we collected. Q. What would you do differently to make your investigation better? (Think about the data collected and the way you analyzed it, or the question you formulated) • We should’ve been more accurate with our data. Q. Explain what scientific questions could branch off of this study to further scientific research about Mars. A. Some questions could be what is the strength of the soil and land if it could sustain greater impacts.
