  2. AboutHadrian • Hadrian was leader of the Roman Empire • Born: 24 January 76 • Died: 10 July 138 • He was traveler between leaders of Roman Empire because he visited many places in his empire

  3. Wall construction began since 122 and ended after 10 years later • Hadrian's Wall was117.5 km long or 80 roman miles • Every roman mile there was gate • If somebody wanted go across gate, he had to pay taxes

  4. Near wall was also guard towers, forts and ditches • Guard could call army if danger was close. • Wall guarded about 9000 soliders • Builders used everything what was near for wall • They used stones, wood, clay

  5. There is a lot of different theories why Hadrian created this wall • One theory says that it was demonstration of the power of Rome • Another says that it defense against scots • Or they made it to stop emigration • There is no document which would confirm one of this theories

After Hadrian‘s death Antonius pius new leader of the Rome Empire left wall and made new with name Antonine • Place between this wall became know as Scotish Lowlands • In 19 th centrury farmers damaged wall because they used stones from wall • John Clayton bought some grounds where wall stays • He wanted stop destroying wall • Then he restore part of wall with his workers

  7. Today is Hadrian‘s wall is in guard of UNESCO • Close wall is a lor of museums • Along the wall is a road for tourists. • It is 4 days long trip. Close road are some hotels and shops
