  1. Invisible Higgs CSC Note

  2. ATLAS UK Higgs - 22/11/06

  3. CSC Note • Note editors: Gerald Oakham, Pauline Gagnon • Wiki page:https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/Atlas/CSCInvisibleHiggs • Mailing list:hn-atlas-cscinvisiblehiggs@cern.ch • CVS repository: groups/Higgs/csc-hg-09/note and PhysicsAnalysis/HiggsPhys/InvisibleHiggs • Contributing: 13 people from 6 institutes working independently on 3 channels ATLAS UK Higgs - 22/11/06

  4. First draft of CSC note • Common introduction • 3 major subsections, one per channel • MC samples description • Filter used and its effects • Trigger issues • Analysis strategy and systematics • Discovery/exclusion potential (limits on BR) • Statistical combination of discovery/exclusion potential • Common conclusion ATLAS UK Higgs - 22/11/06

  5. Vector-boson fusion M. Schram ETmiss (jet-jet) • Issues: • Trigger • Jet reconstruction • Background estimation • MC generation (Pythia 6.3x problem) and filtering • SM backgrounds: • W+2jets • Z+2jets • QCD dijets • ttbar • Atlfast studies so far plus LVL1 full sim trigger studies Mjj Reference Neukermans & Girolamo ATLAS UK Higgs - 22/11/06

  6. G. Hanniger Trigger for VBF • LVL1 rates crucial: • At low lumi ~40kHz for all processes • Aim for O(100) Hz from LVL1 (poor LVL2 rejection power for all-jets channel) • Playoff between ETmiss and jet pT to optimise LVL1 trigger ATLAS UK Higgs - 22/11/06

  7. ZH S. Subramania • Issues: • Background estimation • E.g. from ZZ4l to estimate ZZll • MC generator-level filter • Multivariate method • SM backgrounds: • ZZll (irreducible) • ZllX • ZW • ttbar • Atlfast studies so far plus LVL1 full sim studies of main background ATLAS UK Higgs - 22/11/06

  8. ttH ttbar • Issues: • Lower x-section • Background rejection • Lep-tau background • MC generator filter • Event reconstruction • SM backgrounds: • ttbar • ttZ tt (irreducible) • Atlfast studies so far • Full sim studies starting with trigger tth mT(GeV) ETmiss (GeV) ET (GeV) No cuts; Lumi = 1fb-1 ATLAS UK Higgs - 22/11/06

  10. Summary • Vector Boson Fusion channel: • Bonn group: trigger issues • Dresden group: systematics comparing MC generators • Carleton group: di-jet + Ptmiss filter, mass scan • ZH channel: • Indiana group: filter, event selection, background normalisation • ttH channel: • Freiburg group: ATLFAST studies to be written up soon in Atlas note • Royal Holloway group: full reconstruction, starting with trigger • Aim to have more concrete results in ~3 months • One common mass point should be studied: mH=130GeV • Also looking at common analysis code (HiPtView?)
