  5. Each Grade has more FIXINS as the complexity of the text or expectation increases. • Looking for context clues provided bysynonyms and antonyms • Using picture clues • Reading and rereading other sentences in the text to identify and use words that help unlock the meaning of unknown words

Continue to add Condiments and Fixins until all of the bullets are covered. • Selecting the correct definition of words that have multiple meanings • Using knowledge of homonyms and homographsto avoid confusion when reading • Recognizing and using appositives • Using word cues (e.g., metaphors and similes)
