  7. Children achieve academic success and develop strong life skills. Safety Net Services Provide a Foundation of Care and Support 1. Individuals’ basic needs for food, shelter and clothing are met through temporary assistance. 2. Individuals live healthy lives, coping with crisis and preventing/managing chronic conditions. 3. Individuals maximize their ability to live in a safe environment with independence and dignity, e.g., seniors and people with disabilities. THE AGENDA FOR COMMUNITY IMPACT Ultimate Outcome: Children Grow Into Successful Adults Ultimate Outcome: Families and Individuals Achieve Economic Stability Families/Individuals achieve sustained employment. Children enter kindergarten ready to succeed. Families/Individuals are healthy (socially, emotionally and physically). Families/Individuals have affordable housing. Approach to Work • Design and implement a community engagement and planning process • Region-wide scope • Input from key stakeholders: community leaders, agencies, other funders, issue experts, donors • Create community impact/investment plan • Community goals, outcomes and indicators • Community change initiatives • Ongoing support for core services • One regional investment plan • Local strategies that support regional goals • Alignment of investments, initiatives, public policy advocacy

Impact Committees • Leadership group for each UWGKC issue area—now “impact area” • Regional volunteer representation • Agency representation • Responsible for investments, community change initiatives and public policy advocacy in each issue area • First task: become familiar with issues and programs related to the impact area

  14. 2008 Funding Review • Review to be conducted by Impact Committees • Review will focus on accomplishment of program outcomes identified in 2007 proposal • Ninety percent funding guarantee in place for all eligible programs (funded before 2005) • No new funding proposals considered this year (from member or non-member agencies) • Certification will continue under current process • Approval of recommendations by UWGKC board of trustees and local operating boards (for programs with a local focus)

  15. 2008 Funding Proposal • Abbreviated format • Focus on reporting program outcome achievement • Program participant data • Due on September 25th • Proposals will be reviewed by new Impact Committees • 2008 funding notification in December

  16. Impact Committee Training • Late September • Overview of issues and current United Way investments • Demographic and other data • Panel discussion of issues for each impact area • Precursor to planning process • Members will receive 2008 funding proposals for review

Agency Certification • Will continue unchanged • Agencies currently under review will be notified in September • Agencies not currently under review – “interim year reports” and documentation are due September 7th • UWGKC – examining ways to use Donor Edge for interim year certification report

United Way 2-1-1 • One year and five months in operation • 23-county coverage area • After hours coverage for state of KS and Denver area • 113,053 calls since beginning operation • 850 calls requiring language translation • Media partnership with KMBC-TV and The Kansas City Star • Online public access database • Partnership with agencies • New healthcare specialist

United Way Gifts In Kind Program • New and used merchandise • Clothing, computers, software, office products, furniture, personal care items, educational materials, toys, etc. • $14.5 million in goods distributed in 2006 • Several ways agencies can access merchandise: • Periodic warehouse distribution • Retail donation program • Local donations • Online catalog

  23. Regional Agency Leadership Council • Three meetings to date • Goal: proposal for structure, role and operation of new agency association • Draft proposal will be presented to agencies and UWGKC board • Meeting to provide update/overview: • August 28th (3 to 5pm)

  24. Regional Agency Leadership Council • Currently: • Identifying agency representatives to serve on UWGKC committees • Assist in the 2007 United Way campaign • Wyandotte agency association offered a seat on the Council
