  2. Recent Recommendations • Diphenyl ether, octabromo derivative (2002/755/EC) • No risk to aquatic environment • Marketing and use restrictions should be considered at Community level to protect the environment from the use of octabromodiphenyl ether.

  3. Recent Recommendations • 2002/576/EC • ethyl acetoacetate, • 4-Chloro-o-cresol, • Dimethyldioctadecylammonium chloride • No need for further RR • 2002/575/EC • o-anisidine, • 1,4-dioxane • no risk for aquatic env, current RRM sufficient

  4. Risk Reduction Strategy meeting: 7-8 April • Commission proposal – Recommendation: • 15 substances • New strategies • 2 substances • Work programme for 2003 (next RRS meeting: Nov 2003) • 6 substances

  5. Commission proposal – Recommendation • Substances with WFD recommendations: • Acetonitrile • Acrylic acid • Methyl methacrylate • Toluene • COM to consider inclusion in priority list of Annex X during next review of Annex.

  6. Commission proposal – Recommendation • Some other substances - risk to aquatic environment. • Dealt with in alternative ways • acrylamide - Marketing and Use restriction • acrylonitrile - IPPC

  9. Work programme for 2003 • bis(pentabromophenyl)ether (deca-BDE) (FR/UK): • further information required - still under discussion for ENV. • Pentane (NL): • 1,4-dichlorobenzene (FR): • no further RR measures required for aquatic environment.
