  3. mylasalle Password • Change from default MMDDYY birthdate password to increase security. • Option 1: Change Password After Login • Go to mylasalle login page • Log in with your username and password • Click “My Account” • Click “Change Password”

  4. mylasalle Password • Option 2: Change Password Before Login • Go to mylasalle login page • Click “Reset/Change Password” link • Enter username, click “Continue” button • Enter answers to two security questions • Enter your new password and confirm

  10. Spyware/Adware Removal • Spyware can do damage to your computer's operating system by creating a large amount of traffic. It will also cause advertising popups to appear on your screen. • The following two (free!) programs will get rid of the spyware/adware that may be lurking on your PC. • Recommended use is to run both every few days.

Firewalls • A firewall is a piece of software or hardware that can help protect your computer against hacker attacks, such as computer viruses. • Without a Firewall Hackers Can: • Gain access to personal information • Install code that destroys files or causes malfunctions • Cause problems on other home and business computers connected to the Internet

  15. Firewalls Three types of Firewalls • HardwareRouters – Good choice for home network connected to the Internet. • SoftwareFirewall – Good option for single computer. Windows XP SP2 has one built in. Others are available (free or $$) • Wireless Router – Use for wireless access on one or more computers. May not have a built in firewall.

  16. Surfing Tips • Do NOT open unknown e-mail attachments • Disconnect from Network while not online • Disable Java, JavaScript, and ActiveX if possible • Make regular backups of critical data • Only communicate with people on your IM Buddy List. • Use a Spam Blocker (SpamJam)
