  1. Jesus is God! – Study of LukePart 8-Prepare the Way of the Lord Luke 3:1-8

  2. We just finished celebrating the birth of Christ, and we will begin the New Year studying our Savior’s life, death and resurrection. Jesus stands alone as the solitary figure in history that is both God and man united in one person for all eternity. He is the One who stands in our place as payment once and for all for our sins.

  3. Big Idea:Jesus Must Increase and I must decrease

  4. Pointing People to Jesus by living out your unique ministry and calling “as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight…all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’ ” Luke 3:4–6

  5. Pointing People to Jesus by speaking Truth into the lives of those far from God “Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance…” Luke 3:7–8

  6. Pointing People to Jesus by directing all the Praise and Attention to the source of our Hope John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Luke 3:16

  7. BIG IDEA: Jesus Must Increase and I must decrease We begin our study examining the forerunner to Jesus Christ, John the Baptist. He prepared the nation of Israel to receive their King and as Jesus ministry took center stage He said these words, “He must increase, but I must decrease,” John 3:30. Like John, the ministry of the believer is to point people not to ourselves, but to our Savior Jesus Christ.
