    11. Diploma Programme For students aged 1619, is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students for success at university and life beyond. Page 11

    12. What makes the Diploma Programme special? A rigorous two year pre-university course that leads to examinations. Designed for students aged 16 to 19. Breadth, depth and integration - the full Diploma requires: six academic subjects a 4,000 word extended essay theory of knowledge creativity, action and service Well recognized by the worlds leading universities. Supported in English, French and Spanish.

What makes the Diploma Programme special? Much more than a collection of academic subjects.

    14. What does the Diploma Programme curriculum contain? The curriculum contains six subject groups and a core of three parts.

Creativity, action and service (CAS): encourages students to be involved in artistic pursuits, sports and community service work fosters students awareness and appreciation of life outside the academic arena. Because of the greater degree of objectivity and reliability provided by the standard examination environment, externally marked examinations form the greatest share of the assessment for most subjects. The grading system is criterion-based (results are determined by performance against set standards, not by each students position in the overall rank order).     20. Grading Each subject (HL and SL) is graded from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest) 0 3 points awarded for the Core Maximum score is 45 points Usually a Diploma is awarded for 24 or more points

Core Points Extended Essay 4000 words, students choose topic, academic format, opportunity to demonstrate depth of understanding and passion for subject Theory of Knowledge Presentation and essay Analysis of knowledge claims, puts knowledge in context, encourages breadth of thinking and respect for knowledge in a range of academic fields. Between them, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge can lead to up to 3 Core Points, which contribute to student point totals. CAS At least one afternoon per week. Essential for award of Diploma. No points, but 8 Learning Outcomes.
