  9. Second Commerce It is advisable to choose modules with a view to your ‘Stream’ for Final Year. Some modules may be recommended when considering a certain final year stream. J. E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics

  13. Progression to Final Year • Pass a total of 60 ECTS: B.Comm –50 obligatory + 10 optional credits B.Comm International –55 obligatory + 5 optional credits • Pass mark is 40% J. E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics

  14. Progression to Final Year B.Comm Students have to pass ALL modules in 2nd year BEFORE they can progress to final year. B.Comm. International students must pass ALL the requirements of second year BEFORE they can progress to the year abroad. J. E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics

  15. Progression to Final Year: Passing by Compensation The Pass standard is 40% in each subject.  However the year may be passed by compensation provided: - The aggregate mark for all modules of the year is at least 40% - No mark is below 35% - Not more than 15 ECTS have marks in range 35 – 39% Note: Where one or more of these conditions have not been met, each modulewith a mark below 40% must be repeated.  Marks of 40%  and above arecarried forward to the next session and are not repeatable.   18. B. Comm. Calculation of Degree Average Second Year Results will count towards your Degree average and grade: The overall degree mark will be derived from adding together: 30% of the Second Year marks + 70% of the Final Year aggregate marks. J. E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics

  19. B. Comm. Overall Grade in the Degree: Degree Average Grade in B. Comm. Degree • H1 70% on the aggregate • H2.1 60% on the aggregate • H2.2 50% on the aggregate • H3 40% on the aggregate J. E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics

Second Year Commerce Repeat Examinations • Students must present for the initial examination in a module unless permission has been granted from the School Office. • Medical certificates should be supplied to the School Office if and when seeking permission to defer an exam in advance, contact business@nuigalway.ie or 091 492612 J. International Experience • Work placement + study abroad • Or study abroad for a full academic year (limited availability) • In 2012/13 twenty successful students were selected to transfer to the B. Comm. (International Experience) Degree. We are expanding places on this programme with a view to offering over 30 places in the next cycle.
