  2. “Making money was just not high on my list. Ensuring that customers were taken care of and employees were happy -– those were the important things. I figured if I did those things well, I’d make money, because I would attract customers willing to pay a fair price for what I was offering. We derive our success from common-sense: Treat customers well, give employees respect, and profits and growth will naturally follow.” Jack Taylor, Founder, Enterprise Rent-a-Car

  5. Our Targets Determine Our Actions

  6. The Rulers’ Actions Revealed Their Target And there was a great outcry of the people against their Jewish brethren…“We have mortgaged our lands…that we might buy grain because of the famine… We have borrowed money for the king’s tax… we are forcing our children to be slaves... It is not in our power to redeem them… And I became very angry when I heard their outcry. After serious thought, I rebuked the rulers: “Each of you is exacting usury from his brother… According to our ability we have redeemed our Jewish brethren who were sold to the nations. Now indeed, will you even sell your brethren? Or should they be sold to us?” Then they were silenced and found nothing to say. (Nehemiah 5:1-9 )

  7. Nehemiah’s Actions Revealed His Target “What you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of our enemies? I also, with my brethren and my servants, am lending them money and grain. Please, let us stop this usury! Restore now their lands, their vineyards, their olive groves, and their houses… So they said, “We will restore it…from the time that I was appointed to be their governor… 12 years, neither I nor my brothers ate the governor’s provisions. But the former governors who were before me laid burdens on the people… but I did not do so,because of the fear of God.(Neh 5:11-13)

  11. I’ve discovered my plotline.

  12. Target the Target with Your Tools: Quality Control Nehemiah 3:28 Beyond the Horse Gate the priests made repairs, each in front of his own house. After them Zadok made repairs in front of his own house. After him Shemaiah, the keeper of the East Gate, made repairs. After him Hananiah…repaired another section. After him Meshullam… made repairs in front of his dwelling.

  13. Target the Target with Your Tools: Resilience But it so happened, when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he was furious…and spoke to his brethren and army, “What are these feeble Jews doing? …Now Tobiah the Ammonite said, “Whatever they build, if even a fox goes up on it, he will break down their stone wall.” Hear, O our God, for we are despised; turn their reproach on their own heads, and give them as plunder to a land of captivity! …Do not let their sin be blotted out from before You; for they have provoked You to anger before the builders. So we built the wall, and it was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work. (Nehemiah 6:1-5)

  14. Target the Target with Your Tools: Resourcefulness Now it happened, when Sanballat and Tobiah…heard that the walls were being restored, they became very angry and conspired to attack Jerusalem and create confusion… So it was when the Jews who dwelt near them came, that they told us 10 times, “Wherever you turn, they will be upon us.” Therefore I positioned men behind the lower parts of the wall at the openings; and I set the people according to their families, with their swords, spears and bows. And I looked and said to the nobles, the leaders, and the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome…” (Nehemiah 4:7-14)

  15. Target the Target with Your Tools: Resourcefulness …When our enemies heard that it was known to us, and that God had brought their plot to nothing, that all of us returned to the wall, everyone to his work. So it was, from that time on, that half of my servants worked at construction, while the other half held the spears, the shields, the bows, and wore armor; and the leaders were behind all the house of Judah. (Nehemiah 4:15-17)

  16. Target the Target with Your Time So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days. And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things, that they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was done by our God. Nehemiah 6:15-16

  17. A regret of action is doing something you wish you hadn't done. A regret of inaction is not doing something that you wish you had done.  That conviction is backed up by the research of two Cornell social psychologists. Their research found that time is a key factor in what we regret. We usually regret our actions over the short-term. But over the long haul, we tend to regret inactions. Their study found that in an average week, action regrets were slightly greater than inaction regrets -- 53% to 47%. But when people look at their lives as a whole, inaction regrets outnumber action regrets 84% to 16%.
