  3. Highlights of Dalai Lama’s Visit • The Dalai Lama came to USF for the beginning of a 16-day, 5-city US tour. At USF he participated in a morning Inter-faith prayer service for 1600 at which he was awarded an honorary doctorate, and conducted a teaching session an afternoon teaching session attended by 5,000.

The Dalai Lama stayed in the Jesuit Community of USF • While in San Francisco the Dalai Lama lived with the Jesuits in their community and also hosted smaller groups of dignitaries and followers in the Ricci Room of the Community. A number of the Dalai Lama’s entourage and the U.S. State Department security force also stayed in the Community.
