Objective • Students will be able to explain what senioritis is • Students will know the requirements to graduate from Hoover High. • Students will be able to distinguish their resources. • Students will be able to appraise the effects of senioritis taking into effect. • Students will set and write long and short term goals.

  5. What is senioritis? • Senioritis is a term used to describe the decreased motivation toward studies displayed by students who are nearing the end of their high school careers. • What does that look like • Not turning in assignments • Not showing up • Not paying attention in class • Not caring. Motivation is gone.

  6. Take a minute and relax • Close your eyes take two big deep breaths • It’s graduation day. • Imagine yourself on the field. You are next in line • Your name is about to be called. Then it is called. • You are handed your “Diploma” and shake hands. • How do you feel?

  7. Requirements to Graduate from Hoover • 44 total credits • Minimum of a 2.0 grade point average. To be part of your graduation ceremony 2.0 in citizenship also required. • Senior Exhibition • Pass the CAHSEE both in the English & Math • Passing 4 years of English • Passing 3 years of Math but 4 is recommended for college • Passing 3 years History

  8. Requirements to Graduate from Hoover cont. • Passing 3 years of Science • Passing one years of foreign Language. Colleges recommend 3 years of the same foreign language • Passing a visual art class • Pass 2 years of P.E • Passing a semester in a Computer class • Don’t forget your Community Service (some ROP classes count) • If you have any concerns please come to the counseling office and fill out a call slip and your counselor will call you out.

  9. ResourcesSenior year can be a stressful time, you have a lot going on • Parents • School Nurse • Brothers/Sisters • Teachers • Synergy tutoring after school • Counselors • Good Friends • School Psychologist • Social Worker • Friends that graduated and didn’t graduate last year

  10. Goals Activity • Write at least two short term goals • Write at least two long term goals • Three minutes • If have any questions raise your hand and I will be happy to assist you.

  11. After high school • College (community or 4 year) • Work • Trade school • Military • What happens to your options if you catch senioritis and don’t graduate from High School?

  12. (Big Ten) University Part of a real letter. The Admissions Committee at ( ) University has reviewed your final transcript of grades from XYZ High School. Your academic performance during the senior year was not consistent with that of your sophomore and junior years of high school. As a result, the Admissions Committee has cancelled your admission to ( ) University. Your registration for classes and housing reservation also have been cancelled…We regret this action is necessary; however, your academic performance during your senior year was substantially below the performance expected of students entering the fall semester…

  13. Working after high school • Good jobs usually require a high school diploma • Able to receive better pay with a diploma • Easier to find jobs • Greater opportunities

  14. Military • Men and Women with a high school diploma get higher pay • Men and Women with college credits get higher pay • Men and Women with a college degree enter the military as an officer and get higher pay.
