  4. Initiatives in ABNJ GEF PROJECT • “ Sustainable fisheries management and biodiversity conservation of deep-sea living marine resources and ecosystems in the Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (ABNJ)” • Coordination FAO/UNEP for construction of Prodoc.

  5. Initiatives in ABNJ ACTIVITIES WITH CBD • Galapagos Workshop for the Identification of EBSAs in the ABNJ Southeast Pacific in support of activities from the Convention of Biological Diversity

Montego bay, Jamaica 31 September – 1 October 2013 SPINCAM PROJECT PHASE II Southeast Pacific Data and Information Network in Support of Coastal Area Management (SPINCAM) • 3 Year Project partnership between CPPS, UNESCO/IOC and Government of Flanders • Develop Regional Indicators of the State of the Marine Environment • Capacity Building in Coastal Management

CPPS/UNESCO/CI Partnership Conservation and Sustainable use of Mangroves in the Southeast Pacific Objective: • Promote the conservation of the biodiversity and rational use of the resources from mangroves in order to support the communities depending on these peculiar ecosystem. • To develop a Regional Action Plan to support communities in the conservation of mangroves

CPPS/UNEP/FAO/CI Partnership to raise Regional Awareness on Marine Litter Activities: • Workshops to raise awareness with fishermen and school teachers on marine litter. • Prepare educational material (videos, posters, leaflets etc) • Organize a network of teachers and students – Friends of the Sea – to promote activities like beach clean ups and awareness campaigns.

  10. Establishment of the Network "Friends of the Sea", in order to combat marine litter in the Southeast Pacific countries (UNEP / CPPS). Main Objective To raise awareness in fishing communities in the Southeast Pacific countries, addressing environmental problems generated by marine litter, including its proper disposal and/or reuse, looking into practical and environmentally friendly solution
