  2. World Wide Web • The WWW stands for world wide web. The World Wide Web is a system of resources that enable a lot of computer users to connect and view different kinds of information. Examples: magazine articles, newspapers, histories of, et cetera.

  3. Meet the Inventor: Tim Berners-Lee • Tim Berners-Lee is the computer engineer who developed the idea of the world wide web. • What first helped his thinking of the www was that while in Switzerland he wanted to enable all his information gathered to be shared with other scientists.

  4. Step 1: Identify the Problem • Most people and businesses wanted to get information out to others and fast. The internet needed to be improved. • How would we do this? • How would it work?

  5. Step 2: Brainstorm • Tim Berners-Lee thought he had a brilliant idea. He did. March of 1989, he published an article in the paper called Information Management. This article gave his proposal for the idea of the world wide web which described how it would operate. It is a data base of hyperlinks that could be shared all over the world.

  6. Step 3: Design • Tim played it out for 2 years on how his idea was going to work. In 1990, he officially created his browser, www.

  7. Step 4: Build, Test and Evaluate, Redesign • In 1990 he created the first official web server and page. The address was nxoc01.cern.ch; it was trialed that year but, then was made info.cern.ch. • Tim made this publically accessible in 1991 and made it so it would help other servers around the world. • By the end of 1992, there was over 26 publically accessible web sites on the www.

  8. Step 5: Share Solution • The World Wide Web helped our world tremendously. Since the World Wide Web was created, over 1 billion active users have used it. The World Wide Web has helped us with better communicating, sharing information, and getting things done fast.
