  11. Randolph Media Center is in the heart of the school. First you bring back all the books you’ve been reading and then you check out MORE!

  12. Hope Street’s library is a multi-functional gathering room. Classes are held in the library four hours a day; teachers bring overflow students into the library to complete online research; small groups are sent at different times during the day; individual students arrive to work independently; students and teachers come for resources or to request interlibrary loan.

  14. Avondale East Media Center – “Ready for business”

  15. Topeka High students listened to book talks for their Young Adult Literature class, while other students worked with laptops to research topics for their speech class.

  16. “This is my entry for the library PowerPoint. It might not be the best, but it was made by three 5th graders who I sometimes have trouble with. They came to me one day with the poster without prompting, so I just have to use it.“ Janet Baldwin, MeadowsMedia Center

  18. Dr. Pat Martin assists a student learning advanced research techniques and the use of on-line data bases. Highland Park High School Media Center Students practice newly gained research skills locating materials in language arts and social studies.

  24. State Street Media Center We are truly thankful for the bright new space that makes learning to love books and reading a delight. Thank you for making this possible.

  25. At Quincy the students practiced making graphs from the library checkout data they gathered about their favorite Dr Seuss books! The charts are displayed in the hallways outside their rooms.

  26. Part of the “before school” group of boys that frequent the Jardine Library. They had 30 seconds to find a favorite book they’d read. There were moans because so many favorites were checked out. Middle School Media Specialists facilitated reading groups who participated in an author visit sponsored by the Topeka and Shawnee County Library. Here is Jardine’s group and author Jacqueline Woodson.

  27. Stout students were drawing pictures about the library for the Library Media Specialist. (Lauri Wright sent this as a PDF, so it’s been scanned, printed, digitized as a picture, compressed and pasted here for your enjoyment.)

  32. And finally… THANK YOU! The students at Avondale West and Shaner want to thank the school board for all they do to equip our library with books of various kinds. With these books the students are provided with a wide variety of resources to meet the ever expanding range of learning styles. They, also, are able to investigate areas of personal interests and expand their imagination. Thank you, again, The students at Avondale West and Shaner
