Foreign Language is not required for High School Graduation. However, there are advantages to taking higher levels of language classes in high school (up to German / Spanish AP): 1. Some (but not all) Colleges have Foreign Language entrance requirements. 2. The student will have increased capacity to test out of language classes in college. 3. Advanced language proficiency is very important in the job market. GERMAN 1 Command of speaking and writing German is maximized by students’ gain of grammatical knowledge. Students will create varieties of new sentence structures in this high school equivalent course. Text and support videos provide student practice in German. Added resources such as current Das Rad magazines enhance student interest and knowledge of language-speaking countries and their cultures. SPANISH 1 Spanish I includes listening, speaking, writing, and reading skills. Vocabulary acquisition is emphasized in this high school equivalent course. Grammar skills are reinforced in all aspects of communication. Spanish-speaking countries and their cultures will be highlighted. A variety of resource materials will be used to enhance comprehension.

  5. Foreign Language Courses Placement Policy for 8th Grade Foreign Language Courses: The student will meet the following criteria: Has attained a grade of ‘B’ or better in Language Arts classes in 6th and 7th grades. Has attained a grade of ‘C’ or better as a cumulative average in all subjects in 6th and 7th grades. • Placement in 8th grade foreign language is considered an advanced placement class.
