  2. Womens health Services • HSE statutory service with two areas of work: • Providing Sexual Health and Outreach services for women in all areas of prostitution. • Care planning for Victims of Trafficking for sexual and labour exploitation and also forced criminal activity.

Relevance of WHS in counter trafficking measures Women in the sex industry come for medical services at some point Information on range of experiences by all women irrespective of entry into sex industry, trafficked , controlled and pimped or not, national and non national Access to women who often have no contact with other services VOT can take time to disclose information so offering support and building trust crucially important Operating non-judgemental open service, no pressure May have agreed to work in prostitution but then become VOT, time to pick up on exploitation 6-Jan-20

  8. why women reluctant to report or present to services Fear of prosecution (self incrimination) Fear of persecution from attackers Constant risk of violence (physical/sexual assault) from trafficker or ‘punters’ Implications of disclosure e.g. statements, visibility of their ‘life’ Length of time for judicial process/poor outcomes in court cases Loss of personal items, phones, computer, money (evidence) Perception (real/unreal) that there is no way out 6-Jan-20

(isolated) • Are you frightenedof anybody or anything • Can we help you? – now or in the future • (based on WHO guidelines)
