  5. Introduction • Research into both membership and communication is a fluid study by nature. • This research was conducted in collaboration with ITEA to learn the status of affiliate and ITEA membership and communication abilities.

  6. What was done… • Lari Price, ITEA’s Member Services Coordinator, shared a list of current and past ITEA affiliates in the United States and a roster of ITEA members (May of 2008). • A method to collect and compare data by region and state was established. • Zoomerang questionnaires were sent to ITEA affiliate representatives. Response rate was 48%. • 100% response rate achieved through email, networking, phone calls to affiliates presidents, membership chairpersons, state supervisors.

  7. Questions I focused on… Membership-Related Questions • What is the current official name of your state association? • Current number of “regular” and other such as “life, professional, student, etc.” Communication-Related Questions • Web abilities • Postal abilities • Email abilities • Electronic networking abilities • Publications

  8. of the 46... • 35 affiliate websites had membership forms/information. • 32 affiliates shared information about their state conference. • 26 affiliates had information on how to honor a colleague/awards. • 10 affiliates had ITEA membership information online. • 5 affiliates formally share that they are an ITEA affiliate.

  9. Recommendations • There are between 3,933 to 4,271 additional/potential teachers in the respective state/regional affiliates who could also become ITEA members. Why are they not? • ALL affiliate members should also be ITEA members. • Benefits and services could grow from 10% to nearly 23% of the total population of technology educators in the United States.

  10. Recommendations • The role and responsibility of affiliates to ITEA must be clearly defined. • Affiliates must share information about ITEA membership & affiliation. • Affiliates need to be more active in helping grow membership. • The role and responsibility of ITEA to the affiliates needs to be more clearly defined. • Mutual services that benefit (and help) both affiliates and ITEA need to be explored in order to attract, sustain, and support membership.

  11. Your thoughts? Benefits and services could grow from 10% to nearly 23% of the total population of technology educators in the United States…

  12. Thank you
