  4. “Self-Advocacy Skill Building” is a priority for Parent Centers. To quote from OSEP’s recent application package At a minimum, the PTIs must: (a) increase parents’ capacity to help their children with disabilities improve their early learning, school-aged, and postsecondary outcomes; and (b) increase youth with disabilities’ capacity to be effective self-advocates.

  6. For Parent Centers, supporting youth with disabilities in building their self-advocacy skills includes: • Knowing what youth with disabilities need; • Using best practices to provide training and information to youth with disabilities;

For Parent Centers, supporting youth with disabilities in building their self-advocacy skills includes: • Knowing current evidence-based education practices and policy initiatives in self-advocacy; and • Working with appropriate partners serving youth with disabilities.
