Intermolecular Interaction Studies in Organic Ternary Liquid Mixtures by Ultrasonic Velocity Measurements

The ultrasonic velocity, density and viscosity have been measured for the ternary mixtures of benzene, chlorobenzene and nitrobenzene with N-N dimethylformamide (DMF) in cyclohexane at 303K. The experimental data have been used to calculate the acoustical parameters namely adiabatic compressibility (β), free length (Lf), free volume (Vf), internal pressure (πi), viscous relaxation time (τ), Gibbs’ Free Energy (∆G*) and acoustic impedance (Z). The excess values of some the above parameters are also evaluated and discussed in the light of molecular interaction in the mixtures. It is observed that a weak molecular interaction prevailing in the present systems of the mixtures. Such interactions are primarily due to weak dipole-dipole and dipole- induced dipole types. Dispersive forces are also found to exist between the components of the mixtures.

Studies in thermodynamic properties of electrolytes in aqueous solution of amino acid at different temperatures

Ultrasonic velocity (u), density (ρ), and viscosity (η) have been measured for NaCl and MgCl2 in aqueous alanine solution at 298.15, 303.15, and 308.15K. From these experimental data, thermodynamic parameters i.e. adiabatic compressibility (βa), intermolecular free length (Lf), Vander Waal’s constant (b), internal pressure (Лi) and solvation number (Sn) have been obtained for all the mixtures, with a view to investigate the solute-solute and solute-solvent interactions. Adiabatic compressisibility and intermolecular free length decreases with increase in concentration and temperature. Van der Waal’s constant (b), internal pressure (Лi) and solvation number (Sn) increase with increase in temperature and concentration of electrolytes. These derived parameters have been further used to elicit the ion-ion, solute – solvent and ion-amino acids interactions in the mixtures.

Molecular Interaction study on N, N-dimethyle acetamide and benzonitrile at 308 K

The measurements of ultrasonic velocity (υ), density (ρ) and viscosity (η) of the binary liquid mixture of N, NDimethyle acetamide and Benzonitrile of pure and binary mixture for the entire range of compositions at temperature 308 K have been carried out. The experimental data of these mixtures is used to evaluate other thermo dynamical parameters with their excess values such as compressibility (βα), molecular free length (Lf), acoustic impedance (Z), free volume (Vf), internal pressure (πi) and the excess values as excess compressibility βα E , free length Lf E , acoustical impedance ZE , free volume Vf E and internal pressure πi E . From the nature of these excess parameters the nature and strength of the interactions in these binary systems are discussed in view of molecular interaction. The non linearity observed in the plots of these ultrasonic parameters and their excess values with the composition range indicates presence of the intermolecular interaction between the components molecules of the mixture. The nature of excess values of the βα E , Lf E , ZE , Vf E and πi E conforms about the existence of the molecular association between the components of the mixture.

Investigation of ultrasonic velocity and related thermo-acoustic parameters in ternary liquid mixture containing DEHPA

The measurements of ultrasonic velocity (U) and density (ρ) of the ternary mixture of Di-(2-ethyl- hexyl phosphoric acid), Benzene and Toluene are carried out for entire range of compositions of the mixtures at 298.15K – 313.15K and used to evaluate thermodynamic parameter such as isentropic compressibility (Ks) Intermolecular free length (Lf), acoustic impedance (Z), molar volume (Vm), Wada’s Constant (W) and Rao’s constant (R). Excess thermodynamic parameters, such as excess isentropic compressibility (∆Ks), excess free length (∆Lf), excess acoustic impendence (∆Z) and excess velocity (∆U) have been computed. The ultrasonic velocity has been calculated using various theoretical model and these theoretical relations have been discussed in the present system.
