Comparative Analysis of LCL Filter with Active and Passive Damping Methods for Grid-interactive Inverter System

This paper presents the control strategy for a three phase LCL-filter type based grid connected inverter system for photovoltaic (PV) applications. The control strategy proposed in the paper involves the independent control of active and reactive power injected into the grid during steady state and transient conditions. In addition to that, a comparative study between active and passive damping configurations for LCL type filter resonance damping is also analyzed. The control strategy implemented on a three-phase grid connected PV inverter is studied and verified by computer simulation based on MATLAB Simulink and the results are analyzed for effectiveness of the study.

Passive Damping Filter Design and Application for Three Phase PV Grid Connected Inverter

Second and third order passive filters LC and LCL are interesting filters to use for grid connected PWM inverters. Because of the stability problems of this filter around resonance frequency, series and damping resistor can be add to an LCL filter. However, the resistor value has impact on the filter respond, voltage and current harmonic distortion and system power loss. In this paper, the mathematic characteristics of LC, LCL filter, series and parallel damping LCL filters will be described with their design to apply in 3 phase PV grid connected inverter. And, simulations are used to validate the theoretical analysis of the filters on filter performance and power quality of the grid in 3 phase grid connected inverter. Advanced Active Filter AAF with Reduced DC Link Voltage

In recent years voltage and current harmonics are become serious problem in transmission and distribution system. To eliminate these voltage and current harmonics and to achieve clean grids, AAF are been used. The existing AAF technology requires a higher dc link voltage to achieve the THD requirement therefore this paper presents an Advanced Active Filter AAF for IGBT and LCL network in order to maintain voltage balance among dc link. This method is well capable of balancing charging and discharging of dc link voltage without increasing circuit complexity. This modulation technique is very effective in terms of voltage balancing as well as for maintaining voltage output THD at low level.
