Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky was the prodigal Russian-Armenian artist who cherished a well earned success for no other artists of the contemporary times attained such brilliance in capturing the sea with such vividness and sublime conviction, not to mention an almost apparent ease. He explored what was considered to be the most difficult of all subjects for a painter—the changing moods of the sea. He was appointed as a professional marine painter and he spent much of his times by the sea while he loved it sincerely.
