Effect of temperature on the molecular dynamics of some binary mixtures by ultrasonic method

Ultrasonic velocities (U), densities (ρ), and coefficient of viscosities (η) are measured for binary mixtures containing (i) cholorobenzene - 1 – propanol and (ii) cholorobenzene – benzylalcohol at 303K, 308K, and 313K to under stand the molecular interaction. Various acoustical parameters such as adiabatic compressibility (β) , free length (Lf), acoustic impedance (Z), relaxation time (τ), free volume (Vf), available volume (Va), and internal pressure ( i), are calculated from the measured values of U, ρ, and η. The trend in acoustical parameters also substantiates to asses weak and strong molecular interacations. Other interesting features were observed and they are discussed.

Studies in thermodynamic properties of electrolytes in aqueous solution of amino acid at different temperatures

Ultrasonic velocity (u), density (ρ), and viscosity (η) have been measured for NaCl and MgCl2 in aqueous alanine solution at 298.15, 303.15, and 308.15K. From these experimental data, thermodynamic parameters i.e. adiabatic compressibility (βa), intermolecular free length (Lf), Vander Waal’s constant (b), internal pressure (Лi) and solvation number (Sn) have been obtained for all the mixtures, with a view to investigate the solute-solute and solute-solvent interactions. Adiabatic compressisibility and intermolecular free length decreases with increase in concentration and temperature. Van der Waal’s constant (b), internal pressure (Лi) and solvation number (Sn) increase with increase in temperature and concentration of electrolytes. These derived parameters have been further used to elicit the ion-ion, solute – solvent and ion-amino acids interactions in the mixtures.

The measurement of ultrasonic velocity in pure liquids and mixtures is an important tool to study the physico- chemical properties and also explains the nature of molecular interactions. The study of thermodynamic parameters to explain molecular interaction of drugs in aqueous or non- aqueous medium provides useful information in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry. In present work molecular interaction of aqueous solution of 2-[1-(aminomethyl) cyclohexyl] acetic acid at different concentrations at 303K was studied by measuring ultrasonic velocity, density and viscosity of the solution. The ultrasonic parameters such as adiabatic compressibility, free volume, free length, acoustic impedance, absorption coefficient, viscous relaxation time, available volume and Lenard Jones Potential were calculated. These parameters explained formation of hydrogen bond and molecular interaction existing in the solution.
