Banned Books Week Rocks!: Programming Using Popular Music Beth West -Southeastern Louisiana University The Playlist The Display The Media Tips for the display: --Use old LPs from thrift stores as decoration or overlap on top of a table. They can be microwaved and bent to cover table edges. --Use back issues of Rolling Stone or other music magazines to decoupage a false tabletop or background --Make bookmarks with a link to Youtube playlist/Podcast --Include eye catching props such as old boom boxes or cassettes with the tape pulled out for “streamers” Rock School is a weekly syndicated radio show originating from KSLU in Hammond. Every week, hosts Dr. Joe Burns and Chad P. explore a different topic. We recorded a show for Banned Books Week in which we talked about the books that had been challenged/banned and played the songs that corresponded. Your library can: --Play and link to the Rock School podcast on the Rock School site (Also available free oniTunes) --Make and link to a Youtube playlist of the songs that relate to books --Approach a local radio station who might be interested in letting you guest host a show of your own! You can do it!
