Exam Paper: F851 (10 mins) Political parties (mandatory) • Pressure groups (mandatory) • Electoral systems and referenda • UK parliamentary elections • Voting behaviour in the UK • 1 hour 30 mins • Paper has two sections: 1st part compulsory, second choose one from choice of three • Timings: 3 compulsory questions on political parties/pressure groups (12 marks, 28 marks, 30 marks) choice question : Electoral systems and referenda/ UK parliamentary elections • • Voting behaviour in the UK • Essay questions should be planned and plans left to mark (over 10 marks): • Always leave time for checking and editing • Leave gaps with an asterix for memory gaps to go back to • Include key names and examples for essays • Follow the rule, every argument needs an example • Include up to date examples from the news for essays to boost marks

Political Parties: Mind Map Revision (30 mins) • Definition; roles and functions. • Party Systems: One-, two-, multi-party and dominant party systems; advantages and disadvantages of various systems; the UK party system. • UK parties: Structure and organisation of the main parties; basic values of the main parties; party democracy within the main parties. • Funding political parties: Main sources of party income; issues surrounding the funding of political parties; proposals for reform. • Parties and the democratic process: Contribution to the democratic process; criticisms. • Key developments within and relating to political parties

  5. Political Parties: Revision Flash Cards (10 mins) • Create/use the revision flash cards by finding and completing the answers • Test your self using the cards

  6. Pressure Groups: Key Concepts (15 mins) • Find out and write down what is meant by: • Representation • democracy • Power • Influence • Pluralism • Elitism • corporatism.

  7. Pressure Groups: Revision Flash Cards • Complete and /or use the revision flash cards

  8. Homework:13/05/13 • Start following a revision diary (for each exam you should be sending at least 2-3 hours each day) • Revision should follow the format: revision – test/essay. • Complete the two exam papers to time without materials • Use the revision flash cards and test your self • Start revising with mind maps and make flash cards for: • Electoral systems and referenda (see syllabus guide to follow)
