  2. Ancient China • China is one of the oldest cultures known. • The Yellow River is the “Cradle of Chinese Civilization”.

  3. Modern China • Today China is a bustling country with big cities. • Even though they are modernized, they still keep ancient traditions.

  4. 1931 • They wore usual clothes unlike they did in the previous Han Dynasty. • Chinese food followed traditions so it didn’t change much.

  5. 1931 • Japanese invade China. • China allied with countries to stop this war.

  6. The Flood • Torrential downpours flooded the Yellow River. • Flooded all of Central China.

  7. The Flood • It killed from 1,345,000 to 4,000,000 people. • When this river floods it usually kills about 1-2 million.

  8. The Flood • The damage of the flood is inestimatable. • The Yellow River Flood lasted July to November.

  9. The Flood • The Yangtze and the Huai River also flooded. • The Huai River flooded Nanjing City, the capital of China.

  10. The Flood • Around the Yangtze River got about 2 feet of rain. • The Yangtze River’s worst period was from July to August.

  11. The Flood • After the flood the people started eating the dead because there is no food. • Most died from diseases.

  12. The Science • After it rains for a long time the ground can’t hold any more water. • The water then builds up.

  13. The Science • The rivers built up and went over the dikes. • It then fills the flood plains.

  14. The Science • The water will reach out a very long way because there is nothing to stop the raging water.

  15. The Science • Even if you tried to put up a barricade it wouldn’t work because there is so much force behind it.

  16. The Science • After it all floods, the water has nowhere to go so it will stay there until it all evaporates.

  17. The Science • The flood was so deadly because it drown people and killed all their crops and livestock.
