  2. Poverty by definition is the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor.

  3. *The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is one of the many organization that studies the issue of poverty in the United States. * The following information was gathered at there website.

  4. Today 37 million Americans are considered to be living in poverty • 1 in 6 children do not get there basic needs met. • Children living in a single female household are twice as likely to live in poverty.

  6. Poverty by Region • The South has the highest rate at 14.0 % • The West has 12.6% • The Midwest has 11.4% • The Northeast has the lowest at 11.3%
