To allow all citizens, including those predisposed to diseases, to respond to risk factors whether at home work school or sport field through new generation of systems- User friendly and personalised interactive secure systems for health information and guidance- Portable secure systems for citizens to monitor their health I.1.1 Intelligent environment for citizen centred health management DG Information Society European Commission

  3. “HEALTH” OBJECTIVE: “To support all citizens, including those predisposed to diseases, with new generation systems, allowing them to respond to risk factors through lifestyle changes or other appropriate measures.”

  4. “EXAMPLES” of risk factors: Relevant risk factors are those to which an adequate response is possible by individual measures. These may include: • HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE WHICH MAY PREDISPOSE TO CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE • HIGH CHOLESTEROL LEVELS WHICH MAY PREDISPOSE TO THE SAME GROUP OF DISEASES; • A FAIR SKIN COMBINED WITH A HIGH LEVEL OF EXPOSURE TO SOLAR IRRADIATION WHICH MAY PREDISPOSE TO SKIN CANCER. • TOBACCO SMOKING WHICH MAY PREDISPOSE TO CANCER • A LOW CALCIUM DIET WHICH MAY PREDISPOSE TO OSTEOPOROSIS. • ETC. ETC.

FOCUS: • “Interactive secure and communicating systems for the home, workplace, schools, sport fields to provide citizens with general health information and guidance coupled with health monitoring devices. • Portable secure systems for citizens to monitor recommended lifestyle changes. • Interactive systems for producers and suppliers of healthy lifestyle related products and services (in domains such as nutrition and physical exercise) to take into account in their products or services, evidence based health guidelines.”

  6. Interaction between Citizens, the Medical Profession and “Lifestyle related Industry”. Citizens Lifestyle Industry Doctors Information Society Products and Services Give advice to citizens (General Practitioners) Implement relevant recommendations and buy appropriate products and services Takes health criteria into account while developing new products and services and to lifestyle industry (Medical associations) Intelligent and communicating systems ubiquitous computing, biosensors, intelligent interfaces etc will improve the interactions THE MARKET

EXPECTED OUTCOME • “These innovative systems should enable the citizen to implement appropriate lifestyle changes or improvements to ensure better health and disease prevention. • These systems should establish or complement information flows between the citizens, the medical and paramedical professions and the healthy-lifestyle related industry.”
