  2. Age limits and statutes for juvenile offenders • The juvenile justice system is not a uniform system in which every state and every jurisdiction is the same. • Every state has the right to choose the age of which a juvenile is considered juvenile and when they are considered and adult.

  3. Do juveniles have the same rights as adults- • No, it was not until the case of In Re Gaultthat juveniles even had the right to Due Process. Before this juveniles were not even afforded the right to council. • Juveniles do not have the right to a trial by jury in juvenile court.

  4. Why od juveniles offend? • Poverty • Boredom • High Dropout rates

  5. What are some things juvenile courts do to reprimand offenders? • Incapacitation-Jail Time • Rehabilitation-Have the juveniles seek therapy to help them rehabilitate why they are offending • Medical-If an offender needs medical assistance to help them not offend.

  6. ParensPatriae • One very important aspect of the juvenile court system is ParensPatriae. • This directly translates to the state takes the role as the parent in order to help juveniles best.

  7. Juvenile justice is a complex system in which is ever changing. The system in which we know today is very different from before landmark cases such as In Re Gault. And the system will continue to change and grow with the times and to assist juveniles the best that they can.
