  3. Title of Article • Descriptive, Short—Make reader want to read it • May include a subtitle • Example: • Peasants Attack! • Nobles are beaten, defeated, and homeless

  4. First Sentence of Article • Includes most important points of article • Example: “Early Monday morning peasants throughout the French countryside launched attacks against both the persons and property of the second estate in response to rumors of violence that had been growing.”

  5. After 1st Sentence • Elaborate on 1st sentence and include supporting ideas/quotes from important people. • Example: “For the past week peasants had been hearing rumors that they would be under attack from the second estate.” Rumors included potential violence, starvation, and homelessness for members of the third estate.”

  6. Napoleon Article • Choose a Position—Is Napoleon a tyrant or a hero? • Article is not a biography—choose an event to focus on. • Example: Defeat in Russia, Battle of Waterloo, Crowning as Emperor, Institution of Napoleonic Code
