  1. Project Action Research Subject: English Skill: Writing skill Class: II A By: NanditaPandey

  2. Number of Students: 27 Project started on 02/04/12. Time Period: Two terms (A and B) April to October

  3. My Beliefs… • Teachers must create a positive classroom climate that will foster respect, participation, dignity and trust. • Every student has a different learning style. • Students should be engaged in learning: Enthusiasm is contagious. • Reflection should be an integral component in my development as a teacher. contd.

  4. Classroom management should be preventive, not reactive. • A safe and caring learning environment is strengthened by embracing diversity, and respecting self, others and the world around us. • I am committed to innovation and continuous improvement.

  5. What is Action Research?

  6. Action Research

  7. Aim for Action Research Legible and correct Format of writing

  8. Hypothesis or Problem Statement: Students of Class II A do not write in correct format with correct line alignment. (Class II students have two lines notebook. But they do not write correctly between two lines. Their letters are overlapping between two lines.)

  9. Importance of Handwriting in Learning Basic handwriting is a basic tool used in many subjects- taking notes, writing assignment, doing class work and homework for almost every content area as well as in language. Hand writing in the earliest classes is linked to basic reading and spelling achievement.

  10. Assessment of good handwriting • Execution: It includes correct and consistent pencil hold, posture and letter formation. • Legibility: It involves the readability of • letters , as well as spacing within and • between words.

  11. Baseline Data: It was observed that students were not writing properly in the notebooks. Their letters were overlapping between the Lines.

  12. Intervention Strategies: Correct format of letters are shown to students. 2. Repetitive practice of writing are given. 3. Joining of two letters are shown to students.

  13. Samples Formation of letters are correct but words are not aligned.

  14. Size of letters are not consistent.

  15. It is not legible.

  16. Strategies in the Classroom. • Consistent formation of letters using a continuous stroke if possible. • Focus initially on learning the motor pattern rather than perfect legibility or size. Children began with large movements like forming the letters in the air. They used a sweeping movement with the entire arm, not just the hand. • In cursive, explicitly taught connections between letters as well as formation of single letters. Connections involving four letters- cursive b, o, v and w- followed by a subsequent letter (e.g., as in the words bed, on, have, will) are often confusing for children, because unlike most cursive connections, these do not involve going back down to the bottom line before writing subsequent letter. contd.

  17. Handwriting Workshop (1 week): It emphasized on to develop fine motor skills, correct sitting posture and correct formation of letters. • Cursive handwriting practice book in the weekend. • i Pad App --Cursive Writing: It helped to learn and practice joining strokes between letters.

  18. Handwriting Workshop

  19. Evaluation: • Students have gradually • started • following correct writing • format. • Continuous • practice are required to attain correct writing style.

  20. Improvement

  21. My Reflection • Students are trying hard for their handwriting. • 80% students are aware and conscious while writing. • They try to write in the correct format with the correct line alignment. • Continuous practice is very important.

  22. Follow Up: Students are told to write in correct format in all the subjects or in any writing assignments. Correct format writing is shown everyday on the smart board.

  23. Thank you
