  1. Work while studying policy Overseas Studying overseas in countries like USA, UK, Australia or Canada opens doors to various opportunities academically but more so in terms of employment for International students. Most programs overseas require students to conduct themselves in a professional environment since the very beginning of their chose course so that they aren’t startled when it comes to the actual professional world. Earn while you learn is a concept well accepted and propagated in foreign countries. Earning while studying not only helps you gain practical knowledge but also helps you earn and be independent hence being able to afford a lifestyle of your own when overseas. 1.Australia: Australia is not only home to wildlife and natural attractions but also to earning while learning plans for students. When you have a valid student visa in Australia you have the benefit of working for up to 40 hours every 2 weeks during the session of your studies. You can work more for a week and less for another, you don’t need to divide the time equally. However, when you have summer breaks or winter breaks you can change this cycle and work full time as an option as well. 2.Canada: Canada is the most popular study destination for international students owing to its flexible courses and working while studying facilities. International students in Canada can find employment if they’re enrolled in a full time diploma, degree or certificate program which is at least 6 months in length of duration. In Canada, if you’re a student in the last semester of your degree program, you can work off- campus given you were a full time student till the last semester and you don’t require a full-course load at that point of your course. You can also work up to 20 hours per week off campus during the semester and full time when you have vacations. 3.UK: United Kingdom has over 50,000 academic courses to choose from across more than 25 subject areas making students get spoilt for choice with an array of options. UK also provides international students with the opportunity to work while learning and educating oneself. However, the number of hours a student can work in UK are decided as per the course they are pursuing: a)Course of Degree level or Higher: If you’re studying at a degree level or higher than that, you can work for upto 20 hours per week while being in session as per your course. You can work full time during summer breaks or any other breaks you might get.

  2. b)Courses below Degree level: If you’re pursuing a course below degree level you’re allowed to work for up to 10 hours per week and full time during vacations. 4.USA: USA constantly ranks first when it comes to quality of education and the best universities. USA also gives students the option to earn while they learn like UK, Australia and Canada however, the options are limited. a)Working On-Campus: International students studying in the United States on a valid F1 visa can find work on-campus, such as at the school’s library, cafeteria, or admissions offices. F1 visa holders can work on campus: Up to 20-hours per week during regular full-time semesters More than 20-hours per week between quarter semesters More than 20-hours per week during scheduled breaks, such as winter and summer break. You can work more than one job on campus, but must not exceed the 20-hours per week restriction during regular full-time semesters. b)Working Off-Campus: For students studying in USA, there are 2 options for working off-campus- Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Pre-Completion Optional Practical Training (OPT). In order for a student to be eligible for one of these programs, one needs to complete their first year of studies. Curricular Practical Training- Curricular Practical Training gives you the opportunity of participating off- campus in work experiences as outlined in your degree program. Depending on your degree program, completing a CPT internship is a program requirement that you will need to fulfill before graduating. Pre-Completion Optional Practical Training- Pre-Completion Optional Practical Training allows a student to find off-campus employment.Students who have enrolled themselves in science, mathematics, or engineering can take an OPT extension. If you’re interested in taking advantage of OPT, you’ll need to apply for a separate visa. You can work up to 20-hours per week while studying, and up to 40-hours per week when on a break, such as during summer vacation.
