  5. Brainstorm • With a partner, brainstorm nature-related topics. • You both must record your answers on a piece of looseleaf.

  6. Choose a Topic • Choose one of your nature-related topics. • Brainstorm words and phrases that describe that topic. Write your ideas on a piece of looseleaf.

  7. Writing Haiku • Using your topic and list of descriptive words and phrases, write a haiku. • Please remember: • First line: 5 syllables • Second line: 7 syllables • Third line: 5 syllables • Your poem should create a visual image about your topic.

  8. Haiku Comic Strips • Haiku poems create visual images. Some writers choose to write haiku in the form of a comic strip.
