  2. The respiratory system… • moves oxygen from the outside environment into the body. • Removes carbon dioxide and water from the body.

  3. What is the difference between cellular respirationand breathing?

  4. What is Breathing? • Breathing is the movement of air into and out of the lungs.

  5. Cellular respiration: A chemical reaction inside your cells that produces ENERGY! Confused? Don’t worry…you don’t need to know all of this now!! (whew!)

  6. The Chemical reaction for cellular respiration… Glucose + oxygen energy + carbon dioxide + water (The energy produced by the cell is in the form of ATP, a molecule that releases energy when it breaks apart.)

  7. Why is cellular respiration important for a cell? • Cellular respiration produces the energy that the cell needs to carry out all of its functions!

  8. Where do the oxygen and glucose come from?

  9. Your respiratory system brings oxygen into your lungs.

  10. Glucose • Glucose is produced from the food you eat and absorbed into the body by the digestive system.

  11. Your circulatory system delivers the oxygen and glucose to your cells, where they are used to produce ENERGY!
