  1. Magnets and Other issues Elena Wildner WP4 meeting, CERN team

  2. Present activities II • Visit to Krakow 4/1/ 2010, Epiphany 2010, International Physics Conference • Disseminate our results http://epiphany.ifj.edu.pl/current/ • Show importance of manpower support for ion production (Ne) to be able to present a realistic baseline for beta beams that, according to my understanding, is now emerging. • Visit to Legnaro 13/1 2010 (Venice airport) • EmanueleVardaci has extensive work to present in Paris (Li) • Enhance FLUKA for simulation of reaction in target • Boron experiments in India? Legnaro sets up the contact!

  3. Present activities I • SPC-work finished (results will be available after Chamonix?) • Stability analysis of PS(2) and SPS for FP6 Baseline (PS, Christian does SPS), 5 months/machine • Consolidation FP6 • Search for limits and improvements for FP7 • Stripping after ion source (emmittance, particle loss) • Methods • EXCEL sheet, FLUKA, Geant4?? • Charge states to be discussed in Paris • Magnet specification for the decay ring improvement • Interactions with TE/MCS and CEA • Decay Ring redesign

  4. Superconducting Magnets • Specify for main Dipole and Quadrupole • Magnet Field and Gradient • Magnet Length • Apertures • Liner thickness for dipole (not open midplane) • Magnet cross section for the FLUKA model • Optics dependent • Collaboration with CEA

  5. Choice of magnets (Antoine is calculating optics) • Main Dipole (will certainly decrease duty-factor by some 10 %) • Max 5 m for Nb3Sn • 160 mm total aperture, one bore • 12 T, Nb3Sn • Liner 10 mm • Yoke diameter ? • Magnet cross section: simplify, use LHC cable • Quad • 1 m long? Good to shorten!

  6. New efforts to increase intensity • Injection and merging • More merges (30 ?) • Increase RF • Change injection energy • Displace injected beam • Other options not realistic? • Change bunch length for B and Li in SPS? • We need some time to see if smart solutions exist • Proposal, Rubbia et al. • How was the intensity issue addressed?
