  2. Lesson 1.1 REASONS TO WORK • Earn money = to be able to buy our needs and wants. • Social satisfaction = meet new people, to give and receive understanding and acceptance. • Positive feelings = self worth, feelings of accomplishments. • Prestige = to receive admiration from others. CHAPTER 1

  3. Lesson 1.1 REASONS TO WORK • Personal development = improve yourself and to learn and grow through your work life. • Contributions to health = mental and physical through work activities. • Self-expression = to shine our interests, abilities and talents. CHAPTER 1

  4. Lesson 1.1 WORK, OCCUPATION, AND JOB – by definition: • Work = activity directed toward a purpose or goal that produces something of value to oneself and/or to society. Work is paid or unpaid (job/volunteer) CHAPTER 1

  5. Lesson 1.1 WORK, OCCUPATION, AND JOB – by definition: • Occupation = a group of similar tasks that a person performs for pay. The education field could be a teacher, administrator, coach, and guidance dean. Can you give another example? CHAPTER 1
